Am I allowed to make love to my lass?
Language: English  after the Styrian (Steirisch)
Recently I was so bold
to sneak secretly to the vicar.
Am I allowed to make love to my lass?
"Don't you dare, bless my soul!
If you make love to her, you'll end up in hell!"
Full of desire
I went to my mother.
Am I allowed to make love to my lass?
"My dear boy, it's too early still;
in fifteen years, maybe, dear!"
In great need as I was
I pleaded my father.
Am I allowed to make love to my lass?
"Insolent rascal!" he scornfully cried out,
"Want to taste my quarter-staff? Then do it!"
Now I was at my wit's end
and went to God the Lord himself.
Am I allowed to make love to my lass?
"By all means," he replied and laughed,
"It's for the boy's sake I've made the girl!"
