Hur ljuv den stund, när det mot afton lider, 
och solen trött i vågen döljer sig! 
Då stiga drömmar upp ifrån forna tider, 
och minnets aftonsuck flyr tyst till dig.

Och när jag ser den ström av ljus, som målar 
den blanka våg längst bort vid västerns rand, 
jag ville vandra fram på gyllne strålar
