by Arseny Arkad'yevich Golenishchev-Kutuzov (1848 - 1913) and sometimes misattributed to Vladimir Linder

Na piru
Language: Russian (Русский)
Čem gromče prazdnyj pir šumit vokrug menja,
Čem jarče naglyj blesk ognej ego pylaet,
Tem besprosvetnee v grudi toska moja,
Tem bezutešnee duša vpot'mach rydaet!

Mne čuditsja, beda velikaja blizka!
No postupi ee ešče nikto ne slyšit,
Mež tem kak na stene uže sud'by ruka
"Mani. Fakel. Fares", - neutomimo pišet.

Ešče ne grjanul grom nad p'janoju tolpoj,
Ešče ne prervan gam pirujuščego chora,
A v otkrovenii zloveščem predo mnoj
Ves' užas viditsja suda i prigovora.

I kriknut' chočetsja: "Očnites'! Kazn' idet!"
No vopl' v ustach moich bessil'no zamiraet.
I gromče vse tolpa likuet i poet,
I jarče vse vokrug bezumnyj mir pylaet.

Note for stanza 2, line 4: this is a reference to Chapter 5 in the Book of Daniel (Belshazzar's Feast).
