Polnochnoj poroju v bolotnoj glushi Chut' slyshno, besshumno, shurshat kamyshi. O chjom oni shepchut? O chjom govorjat? Zachem ogon'ki mezhdu nimi gorjat? Mel'kajut, migajut, — i snova ikh net. I snova zabrezzhil bluzhdajushchij svet. Polnochnoj poroj kamyshi shelestjat. V nikh zhaby gnezdjatsja, v nikh zmei svistjat. V bolote drozhit umirajushchij lik. To Mesjac bagrovyj pechal'no ponik. I tinoj zapakhlo. I syrost' polzjot. Trjasina zamanit, sozhmjot, zasosjot. «Kogo? Dlja chego?» — kamyshi govorjat. «Zachem ogon'ki mezhdu nami gorjat?» No Mesjac pechal'nyj bezmolvno ponik. Ne znajet. Sklonjajet vsjo nizhe svoj lik. I, vzdokh povtorjaja pogibshej dushi, Tosklivo, besshumno, shurshat kamyshi.
