Was klagst du, dir fehle der Liebe Glück? Weißt du denn die Liebe zu finden? Du wirfst oft ihr Blümchen selber zurück, weißt es in den Kranz nicht zu winden. Ständ'st hoch du auf starrem, kaltem Gestein, es könnte doch freundlich dir nicken; es stehet wohl keiner so arm und allein, er könnte dies Blümlein nicht pflücken! Und wenn es das Leben auch grausam zertrat, es lächelt dir jenseits entgegen, denn was dir das Leben genommen hat, blüht drüben im himmlischen Segen!

Ton âme se plaint de manquer d'amour ? Sais tu le chercher pour te plaindre ? Tu jettes ses fleurs au loin chaque jour, ton front tu n'en sais jamais ceindre. Qu'aux roches désertes montent tes pas, sa fleur t'y sourit douce et tendre, pas un n'est si pauvre et si seul ici bas, qu'il n'ait le pouvoir de la prendre. Si même la vie en fit mille débris, au ciel elle rit fraiche et belle, car tout ce qu'ici le destin t'a pris, là germe en moisson êternelle.
