Fahr' mich hinüber, junger Schiffer, nach dem Rialto fahre mich! Sieh! dies Halsband schenk ich dir zum Lohne, ich hab es längst bestimmt für dich. Der Schiffer sprach: "Nein, Giannetta! der Lohn ist wahrlich gar zu klein, und zoll ich dich hinüber fahren, so kann's um diesen Preis nicht sein." Fahr' mich hinüber, junger Schiffer, und nimm das Beste, was ich hab'. Sieh! den Rosenkranz, den mir der fromme Bischof am letzten Ostertage gab. Der Schiffer sprach: "Nein, Giannetta! dein Rosenkranz genügt mir nicht, hast du nichts Bess'res mir zu geben, du holdes Engelsangesicht?" Doch seh' ich jetzt die Gondel schwimmen hinüber die bewegte Flut. d'rin sitzt mit Giannetta der Schiffer froh und wohlgemuth. Sie landen an und Giannetta, sie eilte schnellen Schritt's davon. Was hat dem Schiffer sie gegeben? Er war zufrieden mit dem Lohn.

Se mitt halsband, får du till belöning, Länge re'n det så var ämnadt åt dig. gossen sad': "Nej, Giannetta! din skänk är mindre än min bön, och skall jag ro dig till Rialto mycket mer jag vill till lön." Fort, ro mig öfver elake gosse, tag hvad jag bäst och dyrast tänkt: tag den rosenkrans, som den fromme patern i en helig stund mig signande skänkt. gossen log: "Nej, Giannetta! om rosenkransen jag ej bedt, har du ej bättre att mig bjuda skönaste allt mitt öga sett?" Dock ser jag nu gondoln, som gungar bevingad på kanalens våg! der sitter Giannetta, hos gossen, nöjd och glad i håg. Till strand de nå och Giannetta, flyr rodnande bort, den fagra mön. Hvad har åt gondoljern hon gifvet? Nog var han nöjd med sin roddarlön.
