Une voix chante au loin et nous appelle : voix des vallons et des bois joyeux. C'est le printemps aux caresses trop brèves ; en cette nuit de mai, nos cœurs soient heureux ! puis jamais ! Sur ton front je pose le voile d'épousée et des violettes où tremble la rosée; que leur parfum sous la brise s'exhale en la divine nuit! puis jamais ! Des champs s'élèvent des voix frémissantes, mais plus haut s'élève la voix de mon cœur. Penche ! et t'enivre du trouble d'aurore que vibre l'âme, une fois... puis jamais ! Oh ! berçons-nous à l'extase infinie où nous retient la clémence des nuits. Hâte ma joie, prochain est le jour! En cette belle nuit, aimer !... puis jamais !
