Sommernatten er så lys og smuk;
Himlen er så klar og stille,
Stjernerne på voven spille,
aftenvinden dør i sagte suk.

Kom og se, hvor poplen bæver,
blinkende som sølv i måneskin;
se, hvor svanerne de hvide
drømmende på floden glide:
Drømmen hyller hele verden ind.

Og jeg vanker selv i drømme,
fængslet af din stærke trolddomsmagt.
lad dit billed i den klare,
stille nat sig åbenbare
for min sjæl i al sin dronningpragt.

Hvor du vinker, vil jeg følge,
vink til leg og vink til alvors dyst.
