Green were the seeds I sowed,
flowers bloom red today;
please tell me, my dear lad,
who’s driven you away.

Everyone in my home 
drove me back from your door,
for you are the daughter
of a mother who’s poor.

Lord, no one can forbid
the violet to thrive;
do not let them, dear lad,
make you part from your love.

I will never let them
make me part from my love,
my dearest girl as long,
as long as I do live.
