Ballada
Language: Russian (Русский)
Pered voevodoj molča on stoit,
Golovu potupil, sumračno gljadit;
S pleč mogučich snjali barchatnyj kaftan,
Krov' struitsja ticho iz širokich ran.

Skovan po nogam on, skovan po rukam,
Znat', emu ne ryskat' noč'ju po lesam!
Dumaet on dumu, dyšit tjaželo:
Plocho!... vidno, vremja dobroe prošlo.

"Čto, popalsja paren'? Dolgo ž ty guljal!
Dolgo mne v teneta volk ne zabegal!
Čto ž priumolk ty? Slyšal ja ne raz:
Pesenki ty master pet' v veselyj čas;
Ty na lad segodnja vrjadli popadeš'...
Zavtra my uslyšim, kak ty zapoeš'."

Vzgovoril on mračno: "Ne uslyšiš', net!
Zavtra pet' ne budu, zavtra mne ne sled;
Zavtra umirat' mne smertiju lichoj;
Sam ty zapoeš', čaj, s radosti takoj!

My pevali pesni, kak iz lesa šli,
Kak kupcov s tovarom my v ovrag veli...
Ty b nas tut poslušal, ladno peli my;
Da ne dolgo pesnej tešilis' kupcy...

Da eščë peval ja v domike tvoëm;
Zapival ja pesni vse tvoim vinom;
Zaedal ja čarku chozjajskoj edoj;
Celovalsja sladko da s tvoej ženoj!"
