Ballada
Language: Russian (Русский)
Pered voevodoj molcha on stoit,
Golovu potupil, sumrachno glyadit;
S plech moguchix snyali barxatny'j kaftan,
Krov` struitsya tixo iz shirokix ran.

Skovan po nogam on, skovan po rukam,
Znat`, emu ne ry'skat` noch`yu po lesam!
Dumaet on dumu, dy'shit tyazhelo:
Ploxo!... vidno, vremya dobroe proshlo.

"Chto, popalsya paren`? Dolgo zh ty' gulyal!
Dolgo mne v teneta volk ne zabegal!
Chto zh priumolk ty'? Sly'shal ya ne raz:
Pesenki ty' master pet` v vesely'j chas;
Ty' na lad segodnya vryadli popadesh`...
Zavtra my' usly'shim, kak ty' zapoesh`."

Vzgovoril on mrachno: "Ne usly'shish`, net!
Zavtra pet` ne budu, zavtra mne ne sled;
Zavtra umirat` mne smertiyu lixoj;
Sam ty' zapoesh`, chaj, s radosti takoj!

My' pevali pesni, kak iz lesa shli,
Kak kupczov s tovarom my' v ovrag veli...
Ty' b nas tut poslushal, ladno peli my';
Da ne dolgo pesnej teshilis` kupcy'...

Da eshhyo peval ya v domike tvoyom;
Zapival ya pesni vse tvoim vinom;
Zaedal ya charku xozyajskoj edoj;
Czelovalsya sladko da s tvoej zhenoj!"
