Noch liegt der Winter in der Stadt,
Belagert die Häuser und Straßen,
Doch draußen vor dem Thore hat
Der Frühling Reveille geblasen.

Plänkler schickt er in's Land hinaus,
Es halten ihm Wache die Bäume,
Hinter den Bäumen steht ein Haus,
D'rin träumt er noch wonnige Träume.

Blätterumrahmt und duftumhaucht,
Frisch wie [Thau]1 am sonnigen Morgen,
Rosig empor ein Köpfchen taucht,
Von den Blumen neidisch verborgen.

A Dream of Spring
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch) 
Still lingers winter in the town,
besieging the streets and the houses,
though at the gates the call is blown,
that Spring from its slumber arouses.

Searchers sends he throughout the land,
the trees are a watch for him keeping;
hid by the trees a house doth stand,
where spring still is blissfully sleeping.

Framed by the leaves, by scents o'erblown,
fresh as the dew the morn is revealing,
yonder a rosy head is shown
which the flowers would fain be concealing.
