Ein Schrei
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Vom Felde her kam ein verlorener Klang

A scream
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Once when you kissed me in smiling May,
The linden trees blossomed, the nightingale sang,
A lost tone wafted over from the field,
Like the sound of bells – oh, we two blissful ones.
Summer passed, blooming and glowing.
Now it is so eerie, so desolate in the forest,
The sky so pale and the nights so cold,
And through the raptness there shrills [a sound] like a scream.
