Herüberträgt von blumig weißen Höhen, -

An meinen Kahn trieb, - darum lieb ich ihn!
Nicht deshalb lieb ich dieses kleine Blatt
Der Frühlingsweide, weil es mir die Wonnen
Des Lenzes bringt, - nein, weil die junge Frau
Mit einer feinen Nadel meinen Namen
Hineingeritzt hat, - darum lieb ich es!

No, because his blowing made the willow leaf
Float towards my boat, - therefore I love him!
I do not love this tiny little willow leaf
Because it brings the delights of spring, -
No, because the young woman scratched
With a very fine needle my name
Into it, - therefore I love it!
