by Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko (1814 - 1861)

Oj hop, hopaka!
Language: Ukrainian (Українська)
Oj hop, hopaka!
Poljubyla kozaka,
Ta rudoho, ta staroho —
Lycha dolja taka.
Idy ž dole, za žurboju,
A ty, staryj, za vodoju,
A ja — tak do šynku.
Vyp’ju čarku, vyp’ju druhu,
Vyp’ju tretju na potuhu.
P’jatu, šostu, ta j kinec'.
Pišla baba u tanec',
A za neju horobec'!
Vykrutasom-vychyljasom…
Molodec' horobec'!
[Staryj rudyj babu klyče,
A ta jomu duli tyče:
“Oženyvsja, satano,—
Zarobljaj že na pšono;
Treba ditok hoduvat',
Treba ditok odjahat'.
A ja budu dobuvat',
A ty, staryj, ne hrišy,
Ta v zapičku kolyšy,
Ta movčy, ne dyšy”.]1

“Jak bula ja molodoju prepodobnyceju,
Povisyla chvartušynu nad vikonnyceju;
Chto jde — ne myne,
To kyvne, to morhne.
A ja šovkom vyšyvaju,
V kvatyročku vyhljadaju:
Semeny, Ivany,
Nadivajte župany,
Ta chodimo pohuljajmo,
Ta sjademo zaspivajmo”.
Hej, hej, hej!..
Oj hop-hopaka,
Poljubyla kozaka,
Hej!...
