Ein betrogen Mägdlein irrt im Walde, Flieht den harten Tag und sucht das Dunkel, Wirft auf eine Felsenbank sich nieder Und beginnt zu weinen unersättlich. In den wettermürben Stein des Felsens Ist gegraben eine kleine Schale - Da das Mägdlein sich erhebt zu wandern, Bleibt die Schale voller bittrer Zähren. Abends kommt ein Vöglein hergeflattert, Aus gewohntem Becherlein zu trinken, Wo sich ihm das Himmelswasser sammelt, Schluckt und schüttelt sich und fliegt von hinnen.
