Jeg går og pusler i skogen
og tænder et bål ved kvæld.
Nu slukner en dag i vesten
og månen står halvt påhæld.

Alverden er gåt til hvile,
det tier fra busk og sti,
men flagermusvinger sortner
i nyingens skin forbi.

Mit hjærte dovner og drømmer
og stilner som i en rus.
Omkring mig vælder fra skogen
et sagte evindelig sus.

Je vais, flânant dans la forêt
et j'allume un feu au crépuscule.
À présent un jour s'éteint à l'occident,
et la lune est à demi levée.

Tout le monde est allé se reposer,
le buisson et le sentier se sont tus,
mais les ailes noires des chauves-souris
passent devant la lueur du feu.

Mon cœur s'assoupit et rêve,
et s'apaise comme dans une ivresse.
Autour de moi monte de la forêt
un doux et éternel murmure.
