Der Nachtigallen Lieder
Laden zum Schlummer ein,
Die lieblichste der Rosen,
Sie blühte ganz allein.
Ach! alle andern Rosen
Sind lange schon verblüht;
Nur sie allein, die Schönste,
Im Mondenlicht noch glüht.
Allein im stillen Garten
Lauscht sie dem holden Klang,
Und als das Lied verhallet,
Neigt sie ihr Köpfchen bang;
Verblüht wie ihre Schwestern
Ist auch am Ende sie.
Beneidenswerthes Sterben
Gewiegt von Melodie.

The nightgales' songs
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The nightgales' songs
Invite us to slumber,
The loveliest of roses,
She bloomed all alone.
Ah! all the other roses
Have long since faded;
Only she alone, the most beautiful one,
Still glows in the moonlight.
Alone in the quiet garden
She listens to the lovely tones,
And as the song echoes away,
She inclines her head uneasily.
Faded like her sisters
She, too, has reached her end.
Enviable dying,
Lulled by melody.
