ma in fondo a te grave un'angoscia piange;

un desiderio acuto di morire
m'assal con voluttà tranquilla e mesta:
vorrei porre la man su la tua testa
e te sempre adorare e benedire;

vorrei volare tra 'l baglior che scende
in pioggia d'oro su 'l deserto lito,
e per le nubi che 'l tramonto accende
dileguare con te ne l'infinito.

Der heiße Wunsch zu sterben
Überkommt mich in ruhigem, innigem  Drang:
Will  dir die Hand auf den Kopf legen
Und dich auf immer verehren und segnen.

Will fliegen mit dem niederzuckenden Blitz
Im goldenen Regen über die Steinwüste,
und mit den Wolken, die der Wind unermüdlich
in alle Ewigkeit vor sich her treibt.
