Ich gehe fremd durch die Menge hin,
Den irdischen Lauten entrückt,
Ich trage heimlich ein weißes Kleid,
Mit bräutlichen Zweigen geschmückt.
Es ist ein Singen und Blühn in mir,
Als trüg' ich den Lenz in der Brust --
Und liegt doch zitternd ein blasser Flor
Von Thränen über der Lust.

Disconnected from earthly sounds,
Secretly I wear a white dress,
Adorned with bridal greenery.
There is a singing and blossoming within me,
As if I carried spring in my breast --
And yet a pale veil of tears
Lies tremblingly over the joy.
