Może [ziarna]2 prosisz? Może piosnkę nową Z cudzych stron przynosisz? Latasz, patrzysz w koło Czarnémi oczyma: Nie patrz tak wesoło, Nié ma jéj tu, nié ma! Poszła za żołniérza, [Rzuciła tę]3 chatkę; Koło tego krzyża Pożegnała matkę. Gdzie ten szlak na lewo, — Sciskała me nogi; A tam, gdzie to drzewo, Chciała wrócić z drogi! Może lecisz od niéj? Powiédzże mi przecie, Czy nie są tam głodni, Czy [dobrze im]4 w świecie? Czy o mnie mówiła Dobrémi tam słowy? Czy córeczka miła, Czy synek ich zdrowy?

Glockenblumen läuten, dass der Lenz erwache, wieder schwebt die Schwalbe über meinem Dache, Vöglein, flieg nicht weiter, Würmchen sind zur Stelle, trägst ein neues Liedchen über uns're Schwelle. Sie ging in die weite mit dem jungen Degen, Mutter hier am Kreuze gab den Abschiedssegen.
