Der Himmel ist so weit und hehr,
Die Heide ist so menschenleer;
Tief in ihr junges Grün hinein
Leg ich der Toten den Strauß hinein
Im Deingedenken.

Wie muß in dieser Welt allein
Dein Herz so gut gewesen sein
Und tapfer und lieben Wollens voll,
Das in sein Blut hinüber-quoll
Zu reichem Leben.

Ich setz mich nieder ins linde Grün
Und seh die Vogelschwingen ziehn
In blauen Äther hinein
Und sing dir leise mit lichtem Ton
Von deinem großen Sohn.

El cel és tan vast i sublim,
l’ermàs és tan despoblat;
al fons de la seva fresca verdor
poso una corona de morts
en record teu.

Sola al món,
que bo deu haver estat el teu cor
i coratjós i ple de bon voler,
tant que la seva sang vessà 
de pletòrica vida.

M’assec damunt l’herba flonja
i veig els ocells batent les ales
al blau èter, allà dalt,
i et canto fluixet amb una veu clara
del teu fill que s’ha fet gran.
