by Edgar Allan Poe (1809 - 1849)
Translation by Konstantin Dmitrevich Bal'mont (1867 - 1942)

Pochoronnyj slyšen zvon
Language: Russian (Русский)  after the English
Our translations:  ENG
    Pochoronnyj slyšen zvon,
      Dolgij zvon!
Gor'koj skorbi slyšny zvuki, gor'koj žizni končen son, -
Zvuk železnyj vozveščaet o pečali pochoron!
    I nevol'no my drožim,
    Ot zabav svoich spešim
I rydaem, vspominaem, čto i my glaza smežim.
    Neizmenno-monotonnyj,
    Ėtot vozglas otdalennyj,
    Pochoronnyj tjažkij zvon,
      Točno ston -
      Skorbnyj, gnevnyj
      I plačevnyj,
    Vyrastaet v dolgij gul,
Vozveščaet, čto stradalec neprobudnym snom usnul.
    V kolokol'nych kel'jach ržavych
    On dlja pravych i nepravych
    Grozno vtorit ob odnom: --
Čto na serdce budet kamen', čto glaza somknutsja snom.
    Fakel traurnyj gorit,
S kolokol'ni kto-to kriknul, kto-to gromko govorit.
    Kto-to čërnyj tam stoit,
    I chochočet, i gremit,
    I gudit, gudit, gudit,
    K kolokol'ne pripadaet,
    Gulkij kolokol kačaet -
    Gulkij kolokol rydaet,
    Stonet v vozduche nemom,
I protjažno vozveščaet o pokoe grobom.
