Mit der Freude zieht der Schmerz
Traulich durch die Zeiten,
Schwere Stürme, milde Weste,
Bange Sorgen, frohe Feste
Wandeln sich zur Seiten.
 
   Und wo manche Thräne fällt,
Blüht auch [eine]1 Rose,
Schon gemischt, noch eh' wir's bitten,
Ist für Thronen und für Hütten
Schmerz und Lust im Loose.
 
   War's nicht so im alten Jahr?
Wird's im neuen enden?
Sonnen wallen auf und nieder,
Wolken geh'n und kommen wieder,
Und kein Wunsch wird's wenden.
 
   Gebe denn, der über uns
Wägt mit rechter Waage,
Jedem Sinn für seine Freuden,
Jedem Mut für seine Leiden,
In die neuen Tage.
 
  Jedem auf des Lebens Pfad
Einen Freund zur Seite,
Ein zufriedenes Gemüthe,
Und zu stiller Herzensgüte
Hoffnung in's Geleite.

Amb la joia viatja el dolor
íntimament units a través dels temps,
severes tempestes, suaus vents de ponent,
penes angoixants, festes alegres,
caminen una a costat de l’altra.

I allà on cauen moltes llàgrimes,
floreixen també les roses,
ja aplegats, encara abans que els hi demanem,
la pena i el goig són en el destí
de palaus i barraques.

És que no era així en el passat any?
Deixarà de ser-ho en el nou?
Sols surten i es ponen,
núvols passen i tornen
i cap desig ho pot fer canviar.

Vulgui donar doncs, el qui és damunt tots nosaltres,
i mesura amb justes balances,
sentit a tots per llurs joies,
coratge a tots per llurs sofrences
en els nous dies.

Donar a tots en el camí de la vida
un amic a llur costat,
un ànim acontentat,
i, per a una plàcida bondat del cor,
esperança com acompanyament.
