Aprillaunen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Nein, es ist mit launischen Leuten
Nicht zu rechten, nicht zu streiten,
Weil ihr wechselnder Sinn verkehrt
Nur den eignen Willen hört.
Noch mit lachendem Blick und Munde
Stören sie die schönste Stunde,
In den herzlichen Sonnenschein
Fährt die Laune mürrisch drein.
Ja, wer wieder dem Lächeln trauen,
Wer auf solche Freundschaft bauen,
Sorglos je sich verlassen will,
Schickt sich selbst in den April.

April moods
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
No, with moody people
One cannot argue, cannot dispute,
Because their changeable mind wrongly
Hears only its own will.
Even with smiling gaze and lips
They disturb the loveliest hour,
Into the friendly sunshine
Their mood intrudes cantankerously.
Yes, he who would again trust the smiles,
Who would count on such friendship
Who would ever bank on it unworriedly,
Makes a fool of himself.
Translator's note to the last line: The German idiom "in den April schicken" refers to making an April fool of someone.
