neig über [die Wellen]3 dein zierliches Haupt,
du, [dem]4 an Liebreiz der Geist der [Hügeln]5 weicht;
wenn er in einem Sonnenstrahl, des Mittags
über Morvens Schweigen hingleitet.
Er ist gefallen! der Jüngling erliegt, 
bleich unter der Klinge Cuthullins!
nicht mehr wird der Muth deinen [Geliebten]6 erheben,
dem Blut der Gebieter zu gleichen.
O Mädchen Inistores!
Trenar, der zierliche Trenar ist todt.
In seiner Heymat heulen seine [grauen]7 Doggen;
sie sehn seinen gleitenden Geist.

Meisje van Inistore,
Ween op de rots van de stormende winden,
Nijg over golven je sierlijke hoofd,
Jij, voor wier charme de geest der heuvels wijkt,
Als hij zich in een zonnestraal des middags
Over Morvens stilte laat glijden.
 
Hij is gevallen! De jongen bezweek,
bleek onder het zwaard van Cuthullin!
Niet meer zal de moed je geliefde doen opstaan,
Om zich met gebieders te meten.
 
O meisje van Inistore,
Trenar, de sierlijke Trenar is dood.
Bij zijn kasteelpoort huilen nu zijn honden,
Zij zien daar zijn zwevende geest.
In zijn kasteelhal ligt zijn boog met slappe pees,
Men hoort van zijn herten op de heuvel geen geroep,
Men hoort op de heuvel nu geen geluid!
