Birke liebevoll rauschet Wonn'ge Lust in dem Haine; Kosend wohl derWind ihr lauschet, Rauschen muss ja die Kleine. Mägdlein seufzet schwer und trübe, Weint und fragt mit bleichen Wangen Ob er fern immer bliebe, Den ersehnet ihr Bangen. Kommt der Winter gezogen, Blatt auf Blatt fällt hernieder, Alles Grün ist nun verflogen, Birke rauscht nicht wieder. Und das Mägdlein, da der Winter sich kündet Ja, das Mägdlein erst des Fernen gedenket, Bis ihr Herz, neu entzündet, Einem andern sie schenket.
