Trost im Liede
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE
Braust des Unglücks Sturm empor:
Halt' ich meine Harfe vor.
Schützen können Saiten nicht,
Die er [schnell und leicht]1 durchbricht;
Aber durch des Sanges Thor
Schlägt er milder an mein Ohr.
Sanfte Laute hör ich klingen,
Die mir [in]2 die Seele dringen,
Die mir auf des Wohllauts Schwingen
Wunderbare Tröstung bringen;
Und ob Klagen mir entschweben,
Ob ich still und schmerzlich weine,
Fühl ich mich doch so ergeben,
Daß ich fest und gläubig meine:
Es gehört zu meinem Leben,
Daß sich Schmerz und Freude eine.

Troost in het lied
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Gaat de ongeluksstorm tekeer,
Dan pak ik mijn harp maar weer,
'm Weren kunnen snaren niet,
Die zijn zwakker nog dan riet;
Maar door 't hek van het gezang
Voel ik minder hard zijn dwang.
Zachte klanken hoor ik swingen,
Diep mij in de ziel doordringen,
Met sonore kabbelingen
Wonderlijk vertroostend zingen.
En of klachten mij ontzweven,
Of ik stil moet tranen plengen,
'k Voel mij toch zozeer ontheven,
Dat mij niets er af kan brengen:
Het behoort vast tot mijn leven,
Dat zich smart en vreugde mengen.
