Sainte, sainte est la terre de nos pères ! Nous la foulons, avec notre sang enflammé. Retour au père, retour à la mère, retour à la patrie. C'est ici, de cette vieille terre familière qu'est née la noble vaillance de nos ancêtres. C'est ici que l’on retrouve encore la force de poursuivre l’œuvre qu’ils ont accomplie ! Il y a longtemps, bien longtemps, notre amour du pays s'affaiblit, vacilla et fléchit ; pourtant notre Norvège se dressait dans sa puissance, éclatante comme une mer en colère. Les sommets resplendissaient, les glaciers tonnaient, les cascades mugissaient, les forêts murmuraient ; la saga nordique chantait à nos oreilles les nobles devoirs des héros. Belle est la Norvège avec ses monts et ses fjords, et elle captive notre ardent désir. Cultivons, ennoblissons cette terre, des monts du Kölen jusqu'aux vagues bleues. La voie est ouverte, et nos aspirations résonnent comme des voiles gonflées de soleil sur les vagues ; le sourire et les larmes étincellent comme la rosée sur les brins d'herbe qui pointent. Retour au père, retour à la mère, retour à la patrie. Retour à la force vive de notre langue, à ses paroles, où demeure l'esprit de nos ancêtres. Ici ont grandi notre force et notre valeur ; le chant de l'aurore traverse le courage et le cœur. La jeunesse fidèle s'éveille et brise les chaînes étrangères.
