Froher Tag
Language: German (Deutsch)

Was mich den Tag so froh gemacht?
   Ich will dir’s leise sagen:

Du kamst im Traume diese Nacht,
du reichtest lächelnd mir die Hand
und "Liebster" hast du mich genannt . . .

Nun muß ich diesen ganzen Tag
in Alltagshast und Werkelplag
den süßen Laut im Ohre tragen . . .

Happy day
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
How has the day made me so happy?
   I shall tell you quietly:

You came to me in my dreams last night,
smiling, you stretched out your hand to me
and called me "Beloved" . . .

Now, for this whole day,
in the everyday bustle and the bother of work,
I must carry the sweet sound in my ear . . .
