Wein und Liebe
Language: German (Deutsch)

Liebchen und der Saft der Reben
Theilen meines Herzens Gluth,
Und beseligen mein Leben:
Sie ist reizend, er ist gut.

Liebchen macht den Wein mir werther;
Sie kredenzt so freundlich ihn.
Auch mein Liebchen strahlt verklärter,
Wenn ich voll des Nectars bin.

Doppelt ist mein Herz geangelt:
Wein und Liebchen preis' ich hoch.
Wenn zuweilen Eines mangelt,
Tröstet mich das And're doch.

Beiden ewig anzuhängen,
Schwöre frohen Muthes ich.
Sie begeistern zu Gesängen,
Ja, zu heil'gem Wahnsinn mich.

Wagt's, mein Liebchen anzublicken!
Kostet meinen Tafelwein!
Und, o Freunde, mit Entzücken
Stimmt ihr in mein Loblied ein.

So verschön' ich ohne Kummer
Täglich meinen Lebenslauf.
Bacchus dank' ich süßen Schlummer,
Amor weckt mich wieder auf.

Wine and love
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
My darling and grape juice
Share my heart's glow,
And give spirit to my life:
She is charming, it is good.

My darling makes wine more valuable to me,
She hands it to me in such a friendly way.
My darling also shines more brightly
When I am full of that nectar.

My heart faces in two directions:
I value both wine and my darling highly.
If at any time one of them is absent
The other one still offers comfort.

I want to belong to both of them eternally,
I swear this with a cheerful attitude.
They encourage me to sing
And bring about holy madness.

Dare to take a look at my darling!
Taste my vin de table!
And, friends, share my delight
And join in with my song of praise.

This is how, without difficulty, I brighten up
The course of my life every day.
I am grateful to Bacchus for sweet sleep;
Amor wakes me up again.
