In voorspoed maakt het welgemoed, 't Kan troosten in de nood: "Dat niets de harten scheiden moet, Niets dan alleen de dood: Dat altijd weer met frisse moed De man zijn lief beschut, En alles offert, goed en bloed, Wanneer 't zijn vrouwtje nut; Dat hij op heel de aarde niets Dan haar alleen verlangt, En graag in 't zweet zijns aangezichts Haar voor haar kus bedankt; Dat, als in 't veld de leeuw'rik slaat, Zijn vrouw hem blij toelacht, Hem, als de akker dorens draagt, Het werk tot spel verzacht.
