Ghiacciano i vetri, fuori infuria il vento, limpido e blu è, questa notte, il cielo, io sto seduto nella mia cameretta, e guardo in alto nel puro firmamento. Qualcosa mi manca, chiaramente lo avverto, il mio amore mi manca, il sangue mio fedele; e se torno a guardare le stelle lassù in alto, ogni volta lo sguardo mi si vela. Amore mio, perché mi sei così distante, mia dolce stella, mio astro luccicante? Sai bene che ti amo e che di te ho bisogno, e che nuovamente ho gli occhi ricolmi di pianto. Così, per tanti giorni, ho sofferto aspramente e non riuscivo a consolarmi nel canto, perché non si può costringere il canto che libero mormora come il vento di ponente. Ma ora sento che, dolce, mi pervade un calore! E, guarda, proprio questo già diventa un canto! Anche se il mio destino mi allontana dal mio amore allora avverto che può iniziare il mio canto.
