Draussen in der weiten Nacht
Steh' ich wieder nun:
Ihre helle Sternenpracht
Läßt mein Herz nicht ruhn!

Tausend Arme winken mir
Süßbegehrend zu,
Tausend Stimmen rufen hier:
»Grüß dich, [Schwärmer]1, du!«

O ich weiß auch, was mich zieht,
Weiß auch, was mich ruft,
Was wie [Freundesgruß]2 und Lied
Locket durch die Luft.

Siehst du dort das Hüttchen stehn,
Drauf der Mondschein ruht?
Durch die blanken Scheiben sehn
Augen, die mir gut!

Siehst du dort das Haus am Bach,
Das der Mond bescheint?
Unter seinem trauten Dach
Schläft mein liebster Freund.

Siehst du jenen Baum, der voll
Silberflocken flimmt?
O wie oft mein Busen schwoll,
Froher dort gestimmt!

Jedes Plätzchen, das mir winkt,
Ist ein lieber Platz;
Und wohin ein Strahl nur sinkt,
Lockt ein theurer Schatz.

Drum auch winkt mir's überall
So begehrend hier,
Drum auch ruft es, wie der Schall
Trauter Liebe mir.

All'aperto
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the German (Deutsch)
Fuori, nella vastità della notte
mi sono recato di nuovo.
Il chiaro splendore delle stelle
pace non concede al mio cuore!

Mille braccia mi fanno cenno
colme di dolce desiderio,
mille voci mi chiamano
"Ti salutiamo, nostro amato caro!"

So bene che cosa mi trascina,
cosa con insistenza mi chiama,
e come un canto, come un saluto amico,
mi alletta attraversando l'aria.

La vedi la capanna laggiù
su cui riposa la luce lunare?
Dai vetri della finestra, mi guardano
due occhi che mi vogliono bene.

La vedi la casa presso il ruscello
che luce di luna rischiara?
Sotto il suo tetto accogliente
riposa il mio amico più caro.

E vedi quell'albero che tutto
riluce di fiocchi d'argento?
Oh, quante volte il mio cuore
in quel posto si è sentito contento!

Ogni piccolo luogo che sembra chiamarmi
per me rimane il più caro,
e dove cade la luce lunare
mi attira un caro tesoro.

Per questo qui tutto mi affascina
e suscita il mio desiderio,
ed mi sembra di essere chiamato
dalla voce di un amore sincero.
