Mir war's, als hielt ich mich an schwankem Ast, Und hinter mir in Nebel, Nacht und Meer Versank', was vordem war, und eine Last Von Flüchen heulte drüber her. Mich focht kein Hoffen und kein Wunsch mehr an, Ich meinte gar, ich hätte dich nicht lieb, -- Ich glaub', ich hab' dir bitter weh gethan. Vergib!
