Ruft ein desperater Wicht:
Lieber Vetter! Vetter Christel!
Warum schreibt Er aber nicht?

Weiß Er doch, es lassen Herzen,
Die die Liebe angeweht,
Ganz und gar nicht mit sich scherzen,
Und nun vollends ein Poet!

Denn ich bin von dem Gelichter,
Dem der Kopf beständig voll;
Bin ich auch nur halb ein Dichter,
Bin ich doch zur Hälfte toll.

Amor hat Ihn mir verpflichtet,
Seinen Lohn weiß Er voraus,
Und der Mund, der Ihm berichtet,
Geht dabei auch leer nicht aus.

Pass' Er denn zur guten Stunde,
Wenn Sein Schatz durch's Lädchen schaut,
Lock' ihr jedes Wort vom Munde,
Das mein Schätzchen ihr vertraut.

Schreib' Er mit dann von dem Mädchen
Ein halb Dutzend Bogen voll,
Und daneben ein Tractätchen, 
Wie ich mich verhalten soll!

En une poétique épître
un pauvre diable désespéré  appelle au secours : 
cher cousin, cousin Christian ! 
Pourquoi Monsieur n'écrit-il pas ?

Il sait pourtant bien 
que les coeurs touchés par le souffle de l'amour
n'admettent guère la plaisanterie,
et, moins que tous, un poète !

Car je suis de cette race-là, 
la tête pleine en permanence ;
si je ne suis qu'à moitié poète,
c'est que je suis fou pour l'autre moitié

Amour contraint Monsieur à m'obliger,
il connaît d'avance sa récompense,
et la bouche qui l'informera
n'en sera pas pour ses frais.

Que Monsieur guette donc le moment,
où sa bien-aimée regardera à travers les volets.
Qu'il recueille de sa bouche chaque mot
que lui aura confié celle que j'aime.

Qu'il m'écrive ensuite à son sujet
une demi-douzaine de pleines pages,
et en outre un petit traité 
qui m'indique comment me comporter !
