Déjà la nuit en son parc amassait
Language: French (Français)
Available translation(s): ENG
Déjà la nuit en son parc amassait
Un grand troupeau d'étoiles vagabondes,
Et, pour entrer aux cavernes profondes,
Fuyant le jour, ses noirs chevaux chassait ;

Already night is assembling in her pen
Language: English  after the French (Français)
Already Night is assembling in her pen
A great troop of wandering stars
And, is hurrying on her black horses
To enter her deep caverns, fleeing from Day;
Already the sky is reddening in the Indies [East],
And dawn again, studding her locks so blond
With thousands of little round pearls,
Enriches the meadows with her treasures;
When, from the west like a living star,
I see come out above your green bank,
O river of mine, a laughing nymph!
Then, seeing this new Dawn,
The bashful day with a double tint
Colours [the arms] of Angers, and shows the east.
