Tief ist die trauer, die mich umdüstert, 
Ein tret ich wieder, Herr! in dein haus... 

Lang war die reise, matt sind die glieder, 
Leer sind die schreine, voll nur die qual. 

Durstende zunge darbt nach dem weine. 
Hart war gestritten, starr ist mein arm. 

Gönne die ruhe schwankenden schritten, 
Hungrigem gaume bröckle dein brot! 

Schwach ist mein atem rufend dem traume,
Hohl sind die hände, fiebernd der mund. 

Leih deine kühle, lösche die brände, 
Tilge das hoffen, sende das licht! 

Gluten im herzen lodern noch offen, 
Innerst im grunde wacht noch ein schrei...
Töte das sehnen, schliesse die wunde! 
Nimm mir die liebe, gib mir dein glück!

Llarg fou el viatge, fatigats els membres,
buides les arquelles, només ple el sofriment.

La llengua assedegada deleja el vi.
Dur fou el combat, ert és el meu braç.

Dóna repòs als meus passos vacil·lants,
esmicola el teu pa per al paladar afamat!

Feble és l'alè apel·lant el somni,
buides les mans, febrosa la boca.

Dóna'm la teva frescor, apaga els focs.
Fes recobrar l'esperança, envia la llum!

El foc del meu cor flameja encara obert,
a dins, en el més profund, es desperta un crit.

Mata l'anhel, tanca la ferida!
Pren-me l'amor, dóna'm la teva benaurança!
