Unter der Wehmut der Esche
Lächeln die Augen meiner Freundin.

Und ich muß weinen
Überall wo Rosen aufblühn.

Wir hören beide unsere Namen nicht --
Immer Nachtwandlerinnen zwischen den bunten Jünglingen.

Meine Freundin gaukelt mit dem Mond,
Unserm Sternenspiel folgen Erschrockene nach.

O, unsere Schwärerei berauscht
Die Straßen und Plätze der Stadt.

Alle Träume lauschen gebannt hinter den Hecken
Kann nicht Morgen werden --

Und die seidige Nacht uns beiden
Tausenmalimmer um den Hals geschlungen.

Wie ich mich drehen muß!

Und meine Freundin küßt taumelnd den Rosigtau
Unter dem Düster des Trauerbaums.

Les yeux de mon amie sourient.

Et il me faut pleurer
Partout où des roses éclosent.

Nous n'entendons pas nos noms --
Éternelles somnambules parmi les garçons multicolores.

Mon amie voltige avec la lune,
Notre jeu étoilé est suivi par des affolés.

Ô, notre enthousiasme enivre
Les rues et les places de la ville. 

Tous les rêves épient, conjurés derrière les haies
Demain ne peut arriver --

Et toutes deux sommes enlacées
Autour du cou par la nuit de soie.

Comme je dois me tourner !

Et en vacillant mon amie embrasse
La rosée de rose sous l'ombre de l'arbre de deuil.
