Таким невыразимым горем.
Свежо и остро пахли морем
На блюде устрицы во льду.

Он мне сказал: «Я верный друг!»
И моего коснулся платья.
Так не похожи на объятья
Прикосновенья этих рук.

Так гладят кошек или птиц,
Так на наездниц смотрят стройных...
Лишь смех в глазах его спокойных
Под легким золотом ресниц.

А скорбных скрипок голоса
Поют за стелющимся дымом:
«Благослови же небеса -
Ты в первый раз одна с любимым.»

Avec un chagrin si indicible.
Une odeur fraîche et insistante de la mer,
Sur un plateau des huîtres dans de la glace.

Il m'a dit : « Je suis un ami fidèle ! »
Et il a touché ma robe.
Comme il ne ressemble pas à une étreinte
Ce contact de ses mains.

Ainsi on caresse les chats ou les oiseaux,
Ainsi on regarde une cavalière élégante...
Seul le rire dans ses yeux calmes,
Sous la lumière de ses cils dorés.

Tandis que la voix lugubre d'un violon
Chante derrière une brume qui s'étend :
«Bénis donc le ciel --
