The hot‑spring
Language: English  after the Russian (Русский)
You remember that hot-spring,
How clean and running it was,
How a sunbeam bobbed within it
and swayed,
How the adjoining pine forest made a splash of color,
How the heights of the mountains showed white,
How warmly the chorus of stars within it
cycled.
It became shallow and cold,
As if it retreated into the ground.
Leaving behind mud
of pale-red.
For a long time I hungered,
The hot vein between the cliffs
I sought with secret jealousy,
But to no avail.
Suddenly in the mountains flashed a thunder-clap,
The earth shook all around,
I fled, abandoning the house
That was threatening me, --
I looked back -- a wonderful view:
The old spring broke through the granite
And hangs over the chasm,
All aboil!
