Tendez, en souriant et daignant vous pencher,
À ma petite main votre main maternelle,
Pour soutenir mes pas et me faire marcher !

Car Jésus le doux maître, aux célestes tendresses,
Permettait aux enfants de s'approcher de lui ;
Comme un père indulgent il souffrait leurs caresses,
Et jouait avec eux sans témoigner d'ennui.

Ô vous qui ressemblez à ces tableaux d'église
Où l'on voit, sur fond d'or, l'auguste Charité
Préservant de la faim, préservant de la bise
Un groupe frais et blond dans sa robe abrité ;

Comme le nourrisson de la Mère divine,
Par pitié, laissez-moi monter sur vos genoux,
Moi pauvre jeune fille, isolée, orpheline,
Qui n'ai d'espoir qu'en Dieu, qui n'ai d'espoir qu'en vous !
