 Der hehre Engel, der die Pforte
 Des Lichts bewacht, vernimmt die Worte,
 Und wie er lauscht und näher schleicht
 Dem sanften Lied, entsinkt ihm eine Träne;
 Er sprach:

Der Engel
 Dir, Kind des Stamms, schön, doch voll Sünden
 Kann eine frohe Hoffnung ich noch künden.
 Im Schicksalsbuche stehn die Worte:
 »Es sei der Schuld die Peri bar,
 Die bringt zu dieser ew'gen Pforte
 Des Himmels liebste Gabe dar!«
 Geh, suche sie und werde rein:
 Gern laß ich die Entsühnten ein!

 L'angelo maestoso che le porte
 di luce custodisce, ode queste parole,
 e fattosi più vicino per ascoltare
 il dolce canto, si lascia sfuggire una lacrima,
 e dice:

L'angelo
 A te, che discendi da stirpe, bella, ma piena di peccato
 posso ancora annunciare una lieta speranza.
 Nel libro del destino sono scritte le parole:
 "Sia liberata da ogni colpa la Peri,
 che porterà davanti a queste soglie eterne
 il dono più caro al cielo!"
 Va' alla sua ricerca e diverrai pura:
 e volentieri ti farò entrare, redenta!
