Waldemar:
 Nun dämpft die Dämm'rung
 jeden Ton von Meer und Land,
 Die fliegenden Wolken lagerten sich 
 wohlig am Himmelsrand.
 Lautloser Friede schloß dem Forst
 die luftigen Pforten zu,
 und des Meeres klare Wogen
 wiegten sich selber zur Ruh.
 Im Westen wirft die Sonne
 von sich die Purpurtracht
 und träumt im Flutenbette
 des nächsten Tages Pracht.
 Nun regt sich nicht das kleinste Laub
 in des Waldes prangendem Haus;
 nun tönt auch nicht der leiseste Klang:
 Ruh' aus, mein Sinn, ruh' aus!
 Und jede Macht ist versunken
 in der eignen Träume Schoß,
 und es treibt mich zu mir selbst zurück,
 stillfriedlich, sorgenlos.

 Maintenant le crépuscule étouffe
 chaque son, qu'il vienne de la mer ou de la terre.
 Les nuages qui volaient font une halte agréable
 à la lisière du ciel.
 Une paix silencieuse a fermé
 les portes légères  de la forêt,
 et les vagues transparentes de la mer
 se sont elles-mêmes bercées et endormies.
 À l'ouest le soleil jette
 ses habits de pourpre
 et dans son lit ondoyant rêve
 à la splendeur du prochain jour.
 Maintenant rien ne bouge, pas même la moindre feuille,
 dans le logis resplendissant de la forêt ;
 on n'entend pas non plus le moindre son :
 Sois en paix, mon esprit, sois en paix !
 Et toute puissance a sombré
 dans le sein de ses propres rêves,
 et me ramène à moi-même,
 dans une paix silencieuse, sans souci.
