Die Tochter:
Mutter, mag auch weit der Spatz
Flieh'n vor meinem Singen,
Fürcht' ich doch, es wird den Schatz
Um so näher bringen.
Die Mutter:
Freilich, für so dreisten Gauch
Braucht es einer Scheuche,
Warte nur, ich komme auch
In die Beerensträuche!
Die Tochter:
Mutter, nein, das hat nicht Not:
Beeren, schau, sind teuer,
Doch der Küsse, reif und rot,
Gibt es viele heuer!

Pour que la troupe des moineaux
Ne nous vole pas toutes les baies !
La fille :
Mère, même si le moineau pouvait
S'envoler à mon chant;
J'ai peur que mon trésor
Ne soit attiré plus près.
La mère :
Bien sûr, pour un tel benêt effronté
On a besoin d'un épouvantail,
Attends un peu, je viendrai aussi
Dans les arbustes à baies.
La fille :
Mère, non, ce n'est pas la peine ;
Regarde les baies comme elles sont rares,
Mais les baisers, mûrs et rouges,
Il y en a plein cette année.
