Der Frühling kam! In seinem Hauche
Athm' ich ein neues Leben ein.
Der Frühling kam! auf jedem Strauche
Blüht auch Vergessen meiner Pein.
Und bin ich selbst es denn gewesen,
Der gestern noch das Schwerste trug,
Der nimmer glaubte zu genesen
Von Wunden, die der Schmerz ihm schlug?
Der Todessehnen, Liebeszagen
In bitt'rem Streit bestehn gemußt?
Der Frühling kam! Ich will ihn fragen,
Ob ich von Schmerzen je gewußt?
Daß all' mein Glück wie Traum zerronnen,
Daß Lieb' und Hoffen ich verlor,
Kommt mir im Rausch der Maienwonnen
Nur wie ein altes Märchen vor.

flairo una nova vida.
La primavera ha arribat! A cada matoll
floreix també l'oblit del meu sofriment.
I, sóc jo la mateixa persona,
que ahir encara, el més feixuc al damunt portava,
que mai es creia guarir
de ferides que el dolor l'infongué?
El desig de morir, el titubeig de l'amor
han de restar en amarga lluita?
La primavera ha arribat! Jo li vull preguntar
si mai jo he sabut de sofriments.
Que tot el meu goig s'esvaí com un somni,
que jo amor i esperança perdé,
em sembla ara, ebri del delit de maig,
com si tot fos un vell conte.
