Steht dein edles Haupt meinen Augen da...
Nimmermehr bin ich mit mir!
Über all, wo ich geh und steh, bist du allhier.
Träum' ich nachts, bist du da;
Wach ich, steht mir dein Antlitz nah;
Schließ ich die Augen, seh ich dich,
Immer dich, ewiglich!

Où que je sois, loin ou près,
Ton noble visage se tient devant mes yeux...
Jamais plus je ne suis avec moi !
En outre, où que j'aille et que je m'arrête, tu es partout.
Si je rêve la nuit, tu es là ;
Si je suis éveillé, ton image se tient près de moi ;
Si ferme mes yeux, je te vois,
Toujours toi, éternellement !

2. An eine Mutter

Der Himmel ist so weit und hehr,
Die Heide ist so menschenleer;
Tief in ihr junges Grün hinein
Leg ich der Toten den Strauß hinein
Im Deingedenken.

Wie muß in dieser Welt allein
Dein Herz so gut gewesen sein
Und tapfer und lieben Wollens voll,
Das in sein Blut hinüber-quoll
Zu reichem Leben.

Ich setz mich nieder ins linde Grün
Und seh die Vogelschwingen ziehn
In blauen Äther hinein
Und sing dir leise mit lichtem Ton
Von deinem großen Sohn.

2. À une mère

Le ciel est si vaste et si majestueux,
La lande est si déserte ;
Au fond de la verdure fraîche là
Je pose un bouquet funèbre
En ton honneur.

Seule dans ce monde
Comme ton cœur a dû être bon
Et courageux et plein d'amour volontaire,
Pour que son sang déborde
De vie féconde.

Je m'assois dans l'herbe douce
Et je vois les ailes des oiseaux bouger
Dans l'éther bleu là-haut
Et je te chante doucement avec des notes légères
Ton fils devenu grand.

Ist deine Sehnsucht still,
Wenn du dein Lied gesungen?
Meine nicht! Mein Herz bleibt beklommen!
Amselchen singt: Schau nur, schau,
Was bist du für eine törichte Frau!
Weine nicht! Der Tag wird kommen!

3. Chanson du merle

Mon petit merle : Dis-moi !
Est-ce que ton désir est encore là
Quand tu as chanté ton chant ?
Pas le mien ! Mon cœur reste oppressé !
Le petit merle chante : Regarde seulement, regarde,
Quelle femme pleine de folie tu es !
Ne pleure pas ! Le jour va venir !
