Ljusen och lanternan glimma högt kring dem, som den klara stjärnan över Betlehem. Brinn, du julens stjärna, lys min barndomsstig! O, så gärna, gärna ser jag upp till dig, som jag dig förstode, liten liksom jag var också den gode Frälsaren en dag. Och då sken du redan på hans krubba klar, och så sken du redan allt till våra dar. O du goda, fromma, glada juletid! Du vår vinterblomma, full av fröjd och frid! Tusen skalkar gunga ystra på ditt knä. Och små änglar sjunga kring vårt juleträ. Nyt tulee joulu! Nyt joulu on täällä, hiukan pimeä ja viileä se on, mutta kuitenkin niin rakas. Joulu astuu saliin sydämellisellä mielellä ja juhlavaatteissaan tanssivat lapset sisään. Kynttilät ja lyhdyt loistavat kirkkaina heidän ympärillään niin kuin se kirkas tähti Beetlehemin yllä. Loista, joulun tähti, valaise lapsuuteni polkuja! Voi, miten mielelläni katselenkaan ylös puoleesi, ikäänkuin ymmärtäisin sinun sanovan, että yhtä pieni kuin minä oli hyvä Vapahtajammekin kerran. Ja niinkuin jo silloin loistit hänen kirkkaaseen seimeensä, niin olet loistanut aina meidän päiviimme asti. Oi sinä hyvä, hurskas, iloinen jouluaika! Sinä olet talvemme kukka, täynnä iloa ja rauhaa! Tuhannet veitikat keikkuvat iloisina polvellasi. Ja pienet enkelit laulavat joulukuusemme ympärillä. Niiden lauluun sekoittuvat hilpeinä lasten riemukkaat äänet.
