Yonder upon the mountain’s height Stands a magical castle; The walls have fallen into ruins, The horde of knights is no more. But whoever of an evening peers Down from there into the beautiful land, He feels himself drawn, enchanted, Toward those walls forevermore. The magical castle’s rubble Rolled down from the height; With it a fisherman built His little house by the lake. There a slender lad sits By the blonde child of the fisherman; Are they perhaps also bound in enchantment By that rocky rubble? Many a weary wanderer climbs Up to the heights of an evening; But they down in the valley build The castle more beautifully for themselves.
