Zu schönen Taten nur,
Und nährt in uns die heil'ge Glut
Für Wahrheit und Natur.
Erreichet hat des Glückes Ziel,
Wer eine Freundin fand,
Mit der der Liebe Zartgefühl
Ihn inniglich verband.
Entzückt von ihr, ihr beigesellt,
Verschönert sich die Bahn;
Durch sie allein blüht ihm die Welt
Und Alles lacht ihn an.

Le plaisir partagé est doublé,
Le chagrin partagé s'évanouit.

L'amitié dorée donne son bras
Quand arrive le temps du bronze.
Elle réveille la force et suscite le courage
Seulement pour de bonnes actions,
Et nourrit en nous une ardeur sacrée
Pour la vérité et la nature.
Il a atteint le but du bonheur
Celui qui a trouvé une amie,
Avec qui le tendre sentiment d'amour
Les a unis dans le cœur.
Enchanté par elle, attaché à elle,
Sa voie est embellie ;
